I can’t get this to work. I’ve copied the file to the hard drive and iTunes will let me select it. But after that nothing happens. Is there anything else I can try?

thanks, i was able to get my songs off my ipod on to my coomputer. I had bought some song downloads, and my computer crashed, so it was nice to get those downloads back.

If you want to merge both libraries, you will have to use a third party software, i'm afraid. That will let you copy play count and ratings and other goodies also, which isn't bad, after all. My experience tells TuneAid did that job pretty well for me, but there are many others (see this guide, for example).

I had the same issue but then figured it out. After you move the Music folder over, you need to unhide it by right clicking on the folder, selecting “Properties”, and then unchecking the box that says “Hidden”. After that you go into iTunes and add the folder, and it works!! :)

When I try to find my iPod, it appears a few seconds after i connect it, but then it dissappears before I can get to the Music folder. What’s going on and how do I make it stay??

This worked!! I had the same problem as Fern; everything went well up until you click the file-add into the library thing for me and it didn’t transfer the files. But I also realized my ‘Music’ folder was hidden, so I right clicked it and went down to properties and unchecked the ‘hidden’ box and made sure all the files and folders it contained were also unhidden, and then tried to add it to the library again, and it worked!

make sure you unhide the files once they are transferred to the hard drive and before you import them into iTunes. It worked great for my Nano.
